ClassroomSt Joseph Primary School, Kigali, is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1997 by the Parents' Association for the Promotion of Education in Kicukiro. The parents of this association were concerned about the lack of primary schools in the area and came together to create their own. They agreed that its objectives should be "Elite in Teaching" and "Always Going Higher."

The school began life in a building rented from the Josephiste Brothers. Now, in the 21st century, the school has its own premises on land granted by the local council. It has 33 classrooms and 3 offices for management and administrative purposes. There are 1307 pupils; 1040 of these in the primary section with the remaining 267 attending the nursery. There are 76 members of staff. The school has a history of high performance in national examinations:
